Accepting Credentials!

"Honey there are some things that might be hard for you to understand. You know that black people in this country have had a rough time. And lots of them haven't had the same opportunities, so I'm just making sure that your teacher had enough opportunities." (Park, Project Mulberry p. 66-67)

How do we change the mindset of people with prejudices against people of color and people in general? Moreover, how do we teach the children of these people to view the world differently? As for teaching these students, what role should a teacher of color take in trying to get across his/ her ability to teach students? I know many people from all walks of life that believe that only a certain type of person, one who has the most relevant traits of race, religion, gender, and sexual preference suitable to their belief can be successful, so how do we make our qualifications known? And how do we get people with these mindsets to accept our credentials?
